Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
Welcome to the start of a new school year and a new adventure in mathematics. I am excited about being back in the classroom and am looking forward to a great year. Mathematics is a useful, exciting and creative area of study that can be appreciated and enjoyed by all students. It offers to everyone the opportunity to understand and make sense of the world around them.
This year, your child will be studying mathematics from the Big Ideas Math Program. The Common Core State Standards for Mathematical Practice and Content are the foundation for the program. The curriculum is structured to help students communicate their strategies and reasoning so that their mathematical understandings are deepened. The emphasis of Big Ideas Math consists of fewer and more focused standards, conceptual understanding of key ideas, and a continual building on what has been previously taught. In order for learning and understanding to happen in mathematics, homework is essential. Your child will have homework almost every night. I encourage you to check his or her agenda or my school website. My main goal is to help all of my students to be successful in mathematics and to encourage them to continue its study as they proceed through middle school and high school.
This website is designed to help give you all the information you need at home to be successful in math this year. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to call or email me. Thanks for sharing your child with team Arete' this year.
